Training Catalog
For over 30 years, NIC has been recognized for its quality learner-centered instruction. NIC currently offers learning opportunities ranging from traditional, in-person classroom training to synchronous (real time), computer-based training, to e-courses you can access online any time, any place. The training catalog is divided into the following categories of training: Classroom Training, Virtual Instructor Led Training, and Online Courses. Click on the category of training that interests you below and the full list of offerings will appear.
Classroom Training Programs
Instructor-Led Training (ILT) is traditional classroom training. Some NIC programs are held at the National Corrections Academy in Aurora, Colorado, and some are held at sites around the country.
Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) Programs
Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) is a highly interactive delivery mechanism that allows learners to freely and openly interact from their computers in "real time." Sessions are often highly charged, with students sharing experience, perspectives and opinions with the instructor/facilitator and other students. You will enjoy the training and benefit from the experience, you just won't have to travel to get it.
Online Training Courses
The catalog offers 167 online training courses. The courses are listed alphabetically by title. The courses are also organized and aligned in a research based competency model to clarify current and future roles and responsibilities for leaders and managers in correctional agencies. The model categorizes correctional leaders into four main categories/levels: Executives, Senior, Manager, and Supervisor. In addition, there is a category for Specialized Corrections Topics which contains courses developed by NIC specifically for corrections professionals.

Typically, the VILT sessions are 1-2 hours in duration and are conducted using a web-based tool that connects you to the training via your web browser. The audio for the training session is carried over a long-distance phone line. Some VILT training may require students to participate in multiple sessions and possibly require pre-work before the first session and follow-up assignments between sessions.
